Founded through Mr. Ritchie’s estate provisions to benefit YMCA of Frederick County.
Described by a family friend as “the last of the titans because he’s given back to so many organizations,” M. Robert Ritchie, Jr. has, through his estate provisions, created The M. Robert Ritchie Jr., Charitable Gift Fund. Mr. Ritchie was a well-known Frederick County philanthropist, and worked to help support his family from a very early age. After graduating from Frederick High School, he began selling insurance, and then started Ritchie Associates Insurance Company. The company eventually operated 54 multi-state offices. He is also known for developing Holly Hills Country Club, the first of its kind in Frederick County. Mr. Ritchie will be remembered as someone who recognized that many people in the community needed a helping hand. His generous support of many local nonprofits created big impact in the community, and he will continue to do so through his two Community Foundation funds.
