Candace Gove Kakel Memorial Scholarship Fund

Founded by mother Mary Gove for Linganore High School graduates.

Candace Gove Kakel graduated from Linganore High School in 1966 and attended the University of Denver where she earned a degree in English and Theater Arts. She taught English at Mt. Hebron High School for many years before she died of cancer in 1988. The Chase Gove Family, led by Mrs. Mary Gove, established The Candace Gove Kakel Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of their daughter and sister. This Fund supports an annual scholarship for a graduate of Linganore High School, Mrs. Kakel’s alma mater.

Robert E. and Maureen M. Kallstrom Memorial Scholarship Fund

Founded by Mrs. Kallstrom with preference to students majoring in music or computer science/information technology.

Through Robert “Bob” E. Kallstrom’s business and volunteerism with many organizations, he positively impacted Frederick County. For more than forty years, he worked in a computer related management position. He was the Founder and President of Softrac America, Inc. until his retirement. Mr. Kallstrom served on many boards including The Community Foundation of Frederick County, First Bank of Frederick, First Frederick Financial Corporation, the Frederick County Interagency Data Processing Authority, Historical Society of Frederick County, Hood College, and Maryville College. He was also a long-time member of the Rotary Club of Frederick and the Frederick Coffee Club. Mr. Kallstrom’s commitment to improving the lives of others will carry on through the fund by providing scholarships to Frederick County, MD residents for post-secondary education. Preference is given to students who are majoring in music or computer science/information technology.

Richard W. Kanode Farm Park Fund

Founded by Mr. Kanode to support development, maintenance and operation of the Richard W. Kanode Farm Park.

Mr. Kanode passed away in 2020 at the age of 92, but in the years leading up to his passing, he was fast at work putting the pieces in place to turn his beautiful farm into a public park that would serve to connect people with nature and to provide individuals from all walks of life with access to outdoor education and programming.

Mr. Kavanaugh was a faculty member at Phoenix Recovery Academy and he was committed to making a difference in the lives of students recovering from substance use disorders. This fund ensures that his legacy of supporting students, both in their academic and recovery journeys, continues in perpetuity.

Founded by the Kavanaughs to support The Joan and Gordon Swarthout Fund at Hickok Center for Brain Injury, Inc. in Rochester, New York and Centro De Apoyo in Riverdale, Maryland. Founded by an anonymous donor to spotlight the issue of youth homelessness and children aging out of the foster care system, this fund supports the critical needs of The Student Homelessness Initiative Partnership of Frederick County (SHIP). SHIP provides urgent services and resources to Frederick County youth facing housing insecurity and homelessness. Created in memory of his late wife, the fund founder hopes that many students will receive the support they need through this endowed fund.
