A graduate of Linganore High School, John Franklin Harrison had a love for mechanics and aeronautics. Flying was a passion of his. He had a high IQ, but struggled in school because of a learning disability caused by a brain tumor. He had a wonderful personality and his life touched many. His tragic death in a flight accident motivated his family to establish The John Franklin Harrison Memorial Scholarship Fund. This Fund honors his memory by awarding scholarships to individuals pursuing a post-secondary education or career education training with preference given to graduates of Linganore High School and surrounding areas, or students with learning disabilities.
