Founded by James Filby and Debbie Williams for tuition assistance for youth ages 5 to 22 to participate in Frederick YMCA programs.
Alvin Quinn, known as “Mr. YMCA,” worked from 1919 to 1960 at Frederick County’s first YMCA at the corner of Church and Court Streets in the City of Frederick. He served as the YMCA’s General Secretary or Executive Director. His contribution to Frederick through his leadership of the YMCA is critical—not only to local athletics but also to youth character development. In honor of Alvin Quinn’s dedication to the YMCA, a fund was started in his name to promote YMCA participation. The Alvin Quinn Scholarship Fund for Youth, founded by James Filby and Debbie Williams, awards scholarships to Frederick County youth aged 5-22 for tuition assistance, primarily for YMCA camp attendance.
