FREDERICK, MD – November 26, 2019: The first grant from The Claire McCardell Project Fund, one of more than 720 funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County, will support the creation of a statue honoring the iconic fashion designer, Claire McCardell. The Frederick Art Club recently contracted with Sarah Hempel Irani, an award-winning sculptor, to create the larger-than-life bronze statue that will be installed in 2021 at the east end of Carroll Creek Linear Park in Frederick. McCardell (1905 – 1958) was born and raised in Frederick and became internationally known for her ready-to-wear clothes that profoundly changed the wardrobes of American women.
