Founded through Anna G. Beers’ estate provisions to support campus grounds beautification at Hood College.

The Helen G. and Alfred G. Zimmerman Hood College Campus Ground Beautification Fund will support campus grounds beautification at Hood College, located in Frederick, MD. Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman, Mrs. Beers’ uncle and aunt, were the founders and owners of Zimmerman’s Florist on 2nd Street in the city of Frederick. They encouraged and supported Mrs. Beers’ desire to further her education at Hood College, and she graduated in 1939.

Helen L. Smith Scholarship Fund for Children and the Arts

Founded by the Community Foundation for art instruction for elementary school children.

Helen E. Smith received her first set of paints at the age of 12 and continued to pursue her love of art throughout the rest of her life. After attending the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, she returned to Frederick and in 1925 opened her own art shop in downtown Frederick. In honor of Ms. Smith’s art accomplishments and her 100th birthday, The Helen L. Smith Endowed Scholarship Fund for Children and the Arts was established. This fund awards art instruction scholarships for elementary school children. Ms. Smith’s legacy is honored by teaching art, her passion, to another generation.

Henry E. Droneburg, III Memorial Scholarship Fund

Founded by his family for Governor Thomas Johnson High School students and graduates studying art, supplies for art classes held at Governor Thomas Johnson High School, or scholarships or equipment for Frederick County Public Schools Career and Technology Center students studying plumbing.

Henry was a young man who lived a life with a quiet kindness that he extended to everyone he met. He had an ability to make everyone around him smile. He also had a love of skateboarding and shared his enthusiasm with his younger brother, to whom he was a role model. A 2006 Governor Thomas Johnson High School graduate, Henry was an exceptional artist who filled his parents” home with beautiful artwork. His life was tragically cut short in a car accident, leaving a void in the Frederick community. To honor his memory, the Droneburg family created The Henry E. Droneburg, III Memorial Scholarship Fund to aid other aspiring artists who are pursuing a post-secondary education in the visual arts.
