FREDERICK, MD – July 13, 2020: The Women’s Giving Circle of Frederick County announces that 33 grants totaling $220,000 have been presented to 22 area nonprofits serving women and children. The grants are provided from The Women’s Giving Circle of Frederick County Fund, one of more than 720 component funds of The Community Foundation of Frederick County.
The FY2020 grants bring the Women’s Giving Circle grant total to more than $1.8 million since the first grants were distributed. The organization was formed in 2006 and provides opportunities for donors to promote and support programs that enable and empower women in challenging situations to improve the quality of their lives and the lives of their dependents. The Women’s Giving Circle brings people together who share similar philanthropic goals to benefit women’s needs, and the organization has grown to include more than 400 members.
Funding priorities for FY2020 focused on emergency services and growth. The following nonprofits received grants:
Advocates for Homeless Families received a $4,000 grant to provide transportation and childcare support for mothers experiencing homelessness and precariously-housed mothers and a $4,000 grant to provide emergency financial assistance for women and children experiencing homelessness.
Boys and Girls Club of Frederick County received a $10,000 grant to provide summer childcare scholarships for children of single mothers.
Centro Hispano de Frederick received a $4,000 grant to support its “Entre Mujeres” program that offers life skills, educational information, coaching, and advocacy to help Limited English Proficiency women and mothers overcome barriers to self-sufficiency.
Children of Incarcerated Parents Partnership received a $4,000 grant to provide scholarships to women who are impacted by incarceration and a $2,000 grant to offer respite for caregivers who are responsible for children impacted by incarceration.
City Youth Matrix received a $2,000 grant to support female-headed households in need with scholarships and transportation to youth extracurriculars while establishing a network for family empowerment for parents.
Daybreak Adult Services received a $9,000 grant to provide respite services for women caring for an aging parent or spouse.
February Star Sanctuary received a $4,000 grant to support its Caring for Cats of the Homeless Program that provides women facing domestic violence or a housing crisis the ability to have their cats temporarily fostered at no cost.
Frederick Community College Foundation received a $5,000 grant for its Project Forward Step program to provide support for low-income single or displaced mothers to help them acquire an education, a $7,000 grant for its Allied Health Academy to assist unemployed or underemployed women seeking to acquire training in an allied health field, and a $5,000 grant for its Parents Lead Program to provide childcare scholarships for low-income women who are student-parents while they pursue their education.
Frederick Rescue Mission, Inc. received a $10,000 grant for its Faith House Program in support of a program specialist to provide case management services to women and children, a $5,000 grant for its Faith House Transitional Living Program to support women and children experiencing homelessness, and a $3,000 grant to support its food distribution center for women and children in need.
Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County received a $10,000 grant to support its Habitat Home Repairs for Women-Headed Households program to ensure that women and their families live in safe and well-maintained homes.
Housing Authority of the City of Frederick received a $5,000 grant to help low-income women heal from past trauma in order to be successful in future opportunities and a $10,000 grant to support women’s efforts to move forward by making transportation costs more affordable.
Literacy Council of Frederick County, Inc. received a $5,000 grant to support workplace literacy for women employed in low-wage jobs.
Mission of Mercy, Inc. received a $10,000 grant to provide medical care for uninsured and underinsured women and a $9,000 grant to provide dental care for women in need.
Planned Parenthood of Maryland received a $5,000 grant to provide reproductive health screenings, treatment, and services to women living at or below the federal poverty level.
Second Chances Garage, Inc. received a $10,000 grant to provide financial assistance to women for the maintenance of their vehicle and a $10,000 grant to provide refurbished vehicles to women.
Seton Center, Inc. received a $6,000 grant for its DePaul Dental Procedure Assistance Program to provide dental screenings and services to uninsured, low-income women and a $7,000 grant to support the cost of dentures or partials for uninsured, low-income women.
Spanish Speaking Community of Maryland, Inc. received a $2,000 grant to support and educate Frederick County Public Schools mothers and their children who are victims of abuse and/or who are low-income.
Student Homelessness Initiative Partnership (SHIP) of Frederick County received a $10,000 grant to provide emergency housing for unaccompanied young women age 15 through 19.
Team H.O.P.E., Inc. received a $10,000 grant to provide 3-D mammograms, sonograms, clinical breast exams, PET/CT scans, and ultrasound guided biopsies to Frederick County residents who are uninsured or underinsured.
The Monocacy Foundation received a $5,000 grant to provide support for 20 eligible single mothers and single women in Frederick County for education, health, and wellness in their community and with their children.
The Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs received a $10,000 grant to provide emergency shelter and case management support for women and children experiencing homelessness and a $10,000 grant to provide homelessness prevention services for women and their families.
Women to Women Mentoring, Inc. received an $8,000 grant to support women who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) to be matched with a mentor and participate in Women to Women Mentoring’s CORE Program.
