FREDERICK, MD – Sept. 11, 2024: The Community Foundation of Frederick County is excited to announce that it awarded $1.9 million in post-secondary scholarships to more than 350 students for the 2024-2025 academic year. These scholarships are made possible by generous donors who believe in the value of education and who have set up endowed funds with the Community Foundation to help students achieve their educational dreams.
This year, more than 190 different charitable funds provided scholarships to support local students and seven of those funds awarded scholarships for the first time, including The Quantum Frederick Scholarship Fund, The John J. Slezak Instrumental Scholarship Fund, The Kenneth (Bob), Mildred (Millie) and Diane Mildred Taylor Fund, The William “Woody” E. and Nancy Motter Thrasher Fund, The Nancy H. Whitney Scholarship Fund, The Ruth Kobe Scholarship Fund, and The David and Norma Miller Scholarship Fund.
Students from all ten of Frederick County’s public high schools as well as students from private schools and homeschool programs received scholarships this year. The scholarship recipients are studying everything from agriculture to the arts, business, education, engineering, nursing, science and more. Additionally, scholarships were awarded to students in all phases of their post-secondary careers including graduating high school seniors, students already enrolled in college or trade school, graduate students and non-traditional students.
