FREDERICK, MD – July 22, 2022: The Dwight and Serene Q. Collmus Family Fund awarded its first grants, totaling $42,639.22, to three local organizations – Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ, Appalachian Trail Conservancy, and The Covenant School.
The Dwight and Serene Q. Collmus Family Fund was established in 2020 through Mr. and Mrs. Collmus’ estate provisions and will award grants for 15 years based on their children’s recommendations as the fund’s authorized representatives. The Collmuses’ vision allows for their children to address the needs most important to them or their community each year. After that time, the fund will support the Community Foundation’s strategic grantmaking as an unrestricted fund and will provide strategic grants addressing Frederick County’s most pressing needs for generations to come.
“We are happy that our parents’ memory can live on with the help of the Community Foundation to support local nonprofits that mean a lot to us and our parents,” said daughter Betsy Fisher. Mr. and Mrs. Collmus’ love of and dedication to their community will continue for generations thanks to their foresight and generosity.
