Viola Marie Robinson Give Them Wings Fund

Founded by Jean and John Brunk in memory of Mrs. Brunk’s mother to foster independence and enhance the quality of life of Frederick County senior citizens.

Viola Marie Robinson cherished her faith, her family, her friends, and her independence. When she began to lose her mobility, she relied on a cane, then a walker, and eventually a wheelchair to maintain her active lifestyle. Mrs. Robinson lived with her daughter and son-in-law Jeannie and Jack Brunk of New Market for 20 years, until she passed away from cancer. Mr. and Mrs. Brunk established The Viola Marie Robinson Give Them Wings Fund in Mrs. Robinson’s memory to foster independence and enhance the quality of life for senior citizens residing in Frederick County. This donor-advised Fund awards grants to nonprofits that provide wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, and other means of increasing or maintaining mobility. Mrs. Robinson was an inspiration to all who knew her, and her dream for seniors to live dignified, fulfilling, independent lives is made possible through the memorial fund in her name.

Winfield Scott Rodney, IV, Memorial Scholarship Fund

Founded by mother Sonja Sperlich for Frederick County residents, specifically to help individuals in becoming self-sufficient despite any disabilities or obstacles.

Winfield Scott Rodney was a 1991 high school graduate, enjoyed archery and won awards for his talent, and also held interests in science fiction, literature and television. The Renaissance period particularly interested Mr. Rodney and he enjoyed attending the annual Renaissance Festival, sometimes wishing he had been born in a different period. He continued his education at Towson University for a few years and then pursued computer-related careers. A tragic motor vehicle accident took his life in March 2001. To honor his memory and to aid others in need his mother, Sonja Sperlich, established The Winfield Scott Rodney, IV, Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund provides scholarships to assist individuals in becoming self-sufficient despite any disabilities and obstacles they might face.

Clyde and Olga Roney Fund

Founded by their five children to support Advocates for Homeless Families, All Saints Episcopal Church, and Rotary Club of Frederick, specifically to honor veterans.

Clyde and Olga Roney were active members of the Frederick community, involved in numerous church activities and civic endeavors. They were both long-time members of All Saints Episcopal Church. Mrs. Roney was an altar guild member and church school teacher. She served as a member and the treasurer of Maryland Episcopal Women. In addition, she was the treasurer of the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for 18 years and earned special recognition for more than 10,000 hours of service to the Hospital. Mr. Roney was a past Rotary and Chamber of Commerce president. He served as a City of Frederick Alderman. He was active with the YMCA. He owned and operated Roney Motor Company for some 50 years. In memory of the Roneys’ outstanding service to the community, their five children established The Clyde and Olga Roney Fund to continue supporting worthy charitable causes throughout Frederick County in the Roney name.

Naomi A. and Walter L. Roney Fund

Founded by Mr. Roney in honor of Mrs. Roney to support and honor veterans.

Married for 57 years, Walter and Naomi Roney had a daughter and two sons, and both proudly served their country and the Frederick community. When Naomi passed away in 2004, Walter created a memorial fund in her honor, and that fund is now The Naomi A. and Walter L. Roney Fund. The fund supports and honors veterans in Frederick County.

A Walkersville native, Naomi A. Roney served with the U.S. Navy Waves during World War II, working for the Judge Advocate General’s Office General Court Marshall Division in Washington, DC. After the war, she served as a member of and Sunday school teacher at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, a life member of the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary as well as an Inner Wheel member and Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club of Frederick. From 1978 to her retirement in 1991, she was employed by the Frederick County Board of Education.

Walter L. Roney graduated from Frederick High School and went on to serve in the Marine Corps in World War II and the Korean War. He worked in the family business, Roney Motor Company, and after that was sold in 1978, he worked at other car dealers until he retired in 1991. He was known for his work with and dedication to the Boy Scouts of America, the Shangri La detachment of the Marine Corps League in Frederick County, the Rotary Club of Frederick and the American Legion. Walter passed away on Feb. 19, 2022.

Rosebud Frederick Senior Support Fund

Founded by Rose Marie Willard Myers as a field of interest fund to support the needs of senior citizens in Frederick County.

The fund was created by Rose Marie Willard Myers and will provide annual grants that help seniors with basic human needs, therapeutic, socialization, recreation, and nutrition needs, and other areas that enable seniors to age in place. Mrs. Myers, a participant in programs offered by the Frederick Senior Center, wanted to assist the Center and other organizations that respond to the needs of seniors and through the fund, can do so in perpetuity. In addition, she wanted to honor her late husband, George “Bud” Myers.
