Harry and Mattie Cornpropst Scholarship Fund

Founded through Mrs. Cornpropst’s estate provisions for students attending Frederick Community College who are preparing for a career in public education.

The late Mattie Henderson Cornpropst made estate provisions to establish The Harry and Mattie Cornpropst Scholarship Fund, which will provide scholarships for students attending Frederick Community College who are preparing for a career in public education. Mattie, who lived to be 100 years old, moved to Frederick County after graduating from Salisbury State College (now Salisbury University). She married Harry Cornpropst and spent the remainder of her life in Frederick County. Her career as a fourth grade teacher spanned 36 years with Frederick County Public Schools, and included North Market Street School, New Market Elementary School, and Elm Street School.

Sandra Crist Scholarship Fund

Founded through Ms. Crist’s estate for students pursuing a career in animal welfare.

Ms. Crist grew up on a farm and had a lifelong love of farming, animals, and agriculture. After graduating from Frederick High School, Ms. Crist attended Frederick Community College, graduated from Shepherd College, and attended Shippensburg State College. She was also a teacher at Hagerstown Junior College and Frederick High School until 1975. She continued her career working for People’s Life Insurance Company, Frederick County National Bank, and Nicklas, Prete and Sinton. Ms. Crist was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Jefferson, MD and played in the orchestra with the Yellow Springs concert band.

Dr. J. Richard Crouse Memorial Scholarship Fund

Founded by John and Katie Fieseler for Frederick or Washington County graduating seniors studying dentistry, medicine or business at University of Maryland.

Dr. J. Richard Crouse graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Hagerstown in 1954 and from the University of Maryland in 1961 with a degree in dentistry. In 1962, Dr. Crouse opened a private practice in Frederick where he became a pillar of the community as a director of Farmers & Mechanics National Bank, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Frederick Memorial Hospital, and an active volunteer in many other organizations. Katie Fiesler, an employee of Dr. Crouse for 13 years, John Fiesler and Charlie Nicodemus established The Dr. J. Richard Crouse Memorial Scholarship Fund when Dr. Crouse died in 1995. To assist others seeking to follow in Dr. Crouse’s career path, this fund provides scholarships to Frederick or Washington County graduating seniors accepted and enrolled at the University of Maryland College Park to study medicine, dentistry or business.

Dan Crozier Music Trust Fund

Founded with proceeds from the Dan Crozier Music Trust to promote music appreciation, grants to musical organizations, concerts, and music scholarships.

Dan Crozier worked for the United States Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases at Fort Detrick in Frederick. Although Dr. Crozier and his wife never had children of their own, he was passionate about both children and music. Dr. Crozier set up a trust fund in his will to promote music appreciation throughout Frederick County. For years, the trust awarded grants and scholarships to create awareness about music in the Frederick community. The Dan Crozier Music Trust Fund, established with proceeds from dissolving The Dan Crozier Music Trust to continue Dr. Crozier’s legacy, provides grants to musical organizations for sheet music, instruments and other necessary supplies and materials and awards scholarships to assist high school and college level students pursue formal musical education and training. In addition, this fund helps underwrite the costs of presenting and expanding the number of band and musical concerts in Frederick County.
