H. George Baker Memorial Fund for Epilepsy Support

Founded by wife Elizabeth K. Baker for programs for persons with epilepsy.

H. George Baker owned the Case Farm Machinery dealership in downtown Frederick. He changed careers in the early 1960s and went to work for the Frederick County Highway Department until his retirement in 1982. Mr. Baker had epilepsy at a time when the disease was widely misunderstood. When he was younger, his peers sadly did not wish to associate with him. To help others cope with the disease with which her husband lived, Mr. Baker’s widow created The H. George Baker Memorial Fund for Epilepsy Support. The fund supports Frederick County residents diagnosed with epilepsy and their families through The Monocacy Foundation.

H. Reese and Jeannette K. Shoemaker Charitable Fund

Founded by Mrs. Shoemaker in memory of her late husband to support Frederick County Animal Control and the Alzheimer’s Association, Western Maryland Regional Office.

Jeannette K. Shoemaker established The H. Reese and Jeannette K. Shoemaker Fund in memory of her husband and in honor of their life together. Mr. Shoemaker practiced law for more than 40 years and was a founding member and senior partner of the law firm Shoemaker, Horman, and Clapp, P.A. He was active as a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in downtown Frederick, Frederick Kiwanis Club, Frederick County Fish and Game Protective Association, and other civic organizations. Mrs. Shoemaker served on the board of The Record Street Home for many years, and is a member of Tasker’s Chance Garden Club. As an animal lover, she adopted numerous cats from Frederick County Animal Control over the years.

Haas Family Scholarship Fund

Founded by parents Theodore and Norine Haas, in memory of son Robert, for Frederick High School graduating seniors.

Robert G. Haas was a 1979 graduate of Frederick High School who went on to graduate from college and law school. Mr. Haas became a partner at the law firm of McNees, Wallace and Nurick in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, specializing in agricultural law. He was a dedicated Sunday school teacher. When he died suddenly, his parents Rev. and Mrs. Theodore Haas established scholarship fund to honor his life and many accomplishments. In memory of Mr. Haas’ drive to help others, the fund awards scholarships to a graduating senior from Frederick High School who has plans of pursuing a college degree in a human services field.
