Arthur O. and Julane P. Anderson Scholarship Fund

Founded by Dr. and Mrs. Anderson for Frederick County residents who are nontraditional students.

The Andersons established the scholarship fund because of their desire to help non-traditional students obtain post-secondary education. Through their respective places of employment, they met people who postponed their studies for a variety of reasons: starting a family, military service, career change, as well as other circumstances beyond their control. Knowing that it is sometimes difficult to start or return to school, the Andersons wanted to provide positive reinforcement and assistance for those pursuing education in the health sciences. It is their hope that those helped through the scholarships will gain the knowledge to be successful and in turn, help others.

Suzanne Michel Anderson Fund for the Key Memorial Chapel

Founded by family members for maintenance and enhancements of Key Memorial Chapel at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

A devoted mother, wife and businesswoman, Suzanne Michel Anderson was born in Alaska, and lived many places in the United States, including California, Texas, and Maryland. She excelled professionally in the real estate industry. After her death, several members of her family, including her son Bert Anderson, a well-known Frederick business owner, established The Suzanne Michel Anderson Fund for the Key Memorial Chapel. This fund supports the ongoing maintenance and enhancements of Key Memorial Chapel at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.

Derek Matthew Angel Scholarship Fund

Founded by Jon and Lindy Angel with preference to Frederick County residents studying information technology.

Known as “Captain Fan-O,” the face-painted cheerleader for Penn State’s basketball team, and the guiding force behind web sites he created, Derek Angel was a 21-year old senior at Penn State University majoring in media studies when he passed away in July of 2004. A graduate of Walkersville High School, he worked at Clustered Spires Golf Course. He interned with the City of Frederick as the assistant webmaster and with The Community Foundation of Frederick County as the Public Relations Intern, where he demonstrated not only exceptional writing abilities, enjoying the twists of phrases, but also the information technology skills to design the framework for the next iteration of the Community Foundation’s web site. His poise, maturity, sensitivity, and love of conversation and friends set him apart. In his memory, Jon and Lindy Angel created The Derek Matthew Angel Scholarship Fund to award scholarships to students pursuing a post-secondary education, particularly those interested in studying information technology, one of Derek’s passions.
